EIGHTEEN OLYMPIC MEDALS
It was with great expectation and satisfaction that we watched the Olympic Games in Tokyo, following the performance of Portuguese and international athletes that we know so well, and who know the Rio Maior Sports Center well.
Many of these athletes and teams were magnificent medal winners in Tokyo. At the end of this great competition, we have a very positive balance, with a total of 18 medals among athletes who chose us for their preparation. Seven gold medals, three silver medals and eight bronze medals, in sports like athletics, race walking, pole vaulting, discus throwing, triathlon, boxing, judo, swimming and open water, by athletes from countries like Brazil, Sweden, China, Italy, Norway, Great Britain and Colombia.
Among the athletes of the Brazilian Olympic Committee that have chosen the Rio Maior Sports Center as their training base, 10 won medals! A highlight was the gold medal won by Ana Marcela Cunha in open waters. She has already held many training camps at the Rio Maior Sports Centre, taking advantage of our unique conditions for swimming training in long distances.
The Norwegian triathlete, Kristian Blumenfelt, who in the last five years has made the most important moments of his preparation in Rio Maior, was the big winner of the competition in Tokyo. In recent years, he and many of his teammates held long training camps at the Rio Maior Sports Centre, a choice of many triathletes around the world and certified by the International Triathlon Federation.
Among the athletes who won gold medals, we also highlight Swedish Daniel Ståhl, who was one of the big winners of the games at discus throwing. He and many athletes from Sweden have already been at the Rio Maior Sports Centre, as well as the swimming champion, Sarah Sjöström, with a comeback to medals at these Games.
These atheletes found ideal conditions for their preparation at the Rio Maior Sports Center. The familiar and safe environment, the short walking distances to all facilities and services are distinguishing factors, highlighted by teams, coaches and managers. We are one of the most modern and versatile sports complexes in Europe, perfectly prepared to also receive the various types of adapted sports.
We are already focused on the upcoming games in Paris in 2024. We want to continue to be the choice of the best athletes in the world, the home of the best and most demanding, seeking to achieve excellence!
