KAMUZU UNIVERSITY OF HEALTCH SCIENCES LAUNCHES TENNIS CLUB AND ACADEMY
Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (Formerly College of Medicine) Sports in Blantyre, Malawi has introduced Lawn Tennis Club and Academy. The club has about about 30 players who became inactive because of lack of financial and material support.
The General Manager of Sports Complex said the initiative aims at reviving the spark of the sport and bring back its glory. The categories are 12, 14 and 16 years.
'Lawn Tennis is currently played as a social game in Malawi. Sports Complex has come in to and determined to work with the players to unleash the potential in them. The goal is to develop that will compete on international podium, and win medals'. Said George Chitunga, the General Manager.
Soon the program will launched in primary schools in rural areas as a way of promoting the sport and also to use sport to promote gender equality.
The club is however lacking both materials and financial support from partners. The material support may include balls, rackets, attire like shoes, shorts, golf shirts etc.
